Koenigsegg 700 bhp Four-Door Supercar on the Way?

Koenigsegg_CCX

That’s the word on the street today, with reports indicating that the folks at Koenigsegg have been secretly working for the past two years, on a four-door 523kW saloon. Aimed at rival offerings from Porsche and Aston Martin, namely the Panamera and Rapide, the Koenigsegg saloon will supposedly be lighter than both and capable of over 350km/h - for when being late to soccer practice is just not an option.

A concept Koenigsegg saloon, is expected to debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and be ready for sale by 2011. The four-door platform and V8 engine will be unique to the saloon, but carbon fibre fabrication techniques utilised on the CCX supercar will carry over. Styling is rumoured to borrow heavily from the CCX, so it will be interesting to see just how this shape lends itself to an extra two doors.

All that’s needed now is cash - and lots of it - with Koenigsegg looking for investors to finance the process of taking the saloon from a concept to a production version. So if you’re cashed up and like the idea of something potentially more visually appealing than a Porsche Panamera, give the team at Koenigsegg a call.

I fail to see Koenigsegg’s point in building a four-door ‘coupe’. I just can’t see it competing in the same market as the Porsche Panamera or even an Aston Martin Rapide because its such a niche marque.
