Honda is taking a leaf out of Toyota’s ‘how to market a green car’ book by shipping its hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity out to a Hollywood star or two. Among the first of the new emissions-free FCX owners is Jamie Lee Curtis.
At least 200 customers will have the opportunity to lease Honda’s latest green machine, both in Japan and the States. For Jamie Lee Curtis and filmmaker husband Christopher Guest, the FCX is the latest addition to a string of alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles that the couple have owned.
“I really wasn’t expecting it to be so luxurious,” said Curtis. “It’s luxurious, luxurious, luxurious! I love the interior layout, design and access to controls. It is user-friendly and very modern.”
The FCX Clarity is powered by a silent 100 kilowatt electric engine, with the only by-products of powering the unique vehicle being heat and water vapour. Fuel efficiency is said to be three times that of a modern petrol powered car.
Other well-known Honda FCX Clarity drivers from the world of entertainment are actress Laura Harris from television show 24 and film producer Ron Yerxa.
Unfortunately, the current petrol-centric infrastructure in Australia means that we will not see the likes of the FCX Clarity in the short term, however Honda Australia’s Managing Director, Yasuhide Mizuno has confirmed bringing the FCX Clarity to Australia is part of Honda Australia’s long term vision.
“The lack of infrastructure in Australia is the biggest hurdle at present; however the Clarity shows that Honda has introduced the future to the world today.
“Honda has always led the world when it comes to producing low emission vehicles, dating back to the original Civic in 1972 with its ultra-clean CVCC engine. Since then we’ve introduced hybrid motoring and natural gas powered cars and in the future it’s Honda’s dream to provide the world with the ultimate emissions-free car, the FCX Clarity. Our research and development in this area is ongoing, and hopefully in the future we can see a FCX Clarity in Australia.” said Mr Mizuno.

While it is good to hear Honda are furthering their efforts with hybrid cars, I have to wonder, is there some kind of unwritten rule that Hybrid cars must look odd? Bring back the Integra, make it Hybrid and I may think about going down to greenland.
I think a lot more effort is put into aerodynamics when efficiency is so critical but I share your sentiments.
fair point, I hadn’t really associated the odd designs with aerodynamics, but even that taken into consideration, I hope sooner rather than alter we see some nicer hybrid designs.

The shape yes its as slippery as a german porn production companies studio floor. But the elongated rear is there to accomodate the Massive fuel tank.
