Clarkson and BBC to Continue Top Gear Global Onslaught

The BBC seems to be of the opinion that we can never get too much of a good thing when it comes to Top Gear. The UK edition, that we all know and love, continues to entertain while American and Australian versions get ready to hit the airwaves. All this moving and shaking is likely generating a whole lot of cash for the BBC and it looks like one Mr Jeremy Clarkson, and executive producer Andy Wilman, are set to take a larger slice of the cheese due to recent dealings.

In a deal that will see Clarkson and Wilman pocket more of the revenue generated from all Top Gear endeavors, not just the UK series, the BBC has taken majority share of a company known as Bedder 6. Set up by Jeremy and Andy a few years back for unknown reasons, Bedder 6 is now known to have 3 top level BBC executives on board.

Bedder 6 will be responsible for marketing the Top Gear brand worldwide, including the magazine, the UK, US, and AUS television series, and all related merchandising opportunities. It's been reported that this move was necessary to keep Mr Clarkson happy amidst offers from competing networks and producers and should see a substantial amount of money heading his way.

Co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May have not been included in this deal but have reportedly signed up for more generous contracts in light of Clarkson's dealings.

Are we going to end up with Top Gear overload? And do you think Clarkson is justified in his requests or is he getting a bit full of himself these days?

If you'd read the Guardian article, and not the Autoblog one, you'll find it's Bedder 6, not Badder 6.

Yeh I think we may be getting to a point of TG saturation. I certainly noticed an over abundance of Jeremy and a lack of Hammond and May in the most recent series. To much of a good thing will result in the inevitable.

Top Gear, as a franchise, is hot property.

He's done the hard yards to get Top Gear where it is - if he can leverage it to make money despite the way the BBC is funded (and the way he's paid as a result) then good luck to him.

I don't think he is a bit full of himself at all. He is the face of the show and an icon to many so well done to him.
