2008 Bathurst WPS 12-hour results

Performance car and racing enthusiasts are being blessed with another great Bathurst motorsport weekend. A 12 hour Showroom Enduro at Mt Panorama over the Easter Weekend is part of the new Bathurst International Motor Festival. This looks like being a fantastic race as it harks back to the original spirit of Bathurst and the days when they used to race virtually showroom stock cars.

Manufacturers from around the world are showing their support including the top six selling manufacturers in Australia. The field will include the following models just to name a few, with at least 11 manufacturers expected to be represented;

Subaru Impreza WRX
Toyota Celica
Holden Astra VXR Coupe
Holden Astra CDTi
FPV F6 Typhoon
Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 JTD
Mazda 3 MPS

Drivers include Chris Atkinson, Cody Crocker, Grant Denyer and Neil Crompton. There will be at least a dozen drivers with V8 Supercar experience.

Other features on the weekend include Historic Touring Car racing, Commodore Cup cars and the GT Championship cars.

I have heard that camping is not being allowed on the Mountain which will take some of the gloss off the weekend for the die-hards but it should still be a great weekend of racing.

What appears to be seriously lacking is television coverage with a 2hr highlight on Channel 9 being about the extent of it. Information regarding all aspects of the event can be found at the BIMF home page.

From a longtime motorsport fan, who can remember the original format Bathurst races (Easter and October weekends), I applaud the return of REAL cars to the track and thank everybody involved with the effort.

Now, please work on some realtime TV / radio / online coverage for those of us fans who cannot make the trip every year.

I’m with you on this one Snag. I too remember the ‘Golden days’ at Bathurst when the endurance racing was so much more relevant to the average Australian driver. I enjoy the current V8 Supercar format but remember with fondness when there were many more brands represented and the racing was more interesting as a result. There was nothing quite like watching the mighty GTR’s, Jaguar XJS’s and M3 BMW’s not to forget the Cosworth Sierras. Seeing them on the mountain was awesome.

I’ve updated top-10 qualifying and info on television coverage in a new post here http://petrolhead.net.au/archives/133 Short of keeping an eye on the official website for their real time updates there is not much you can do this weekend aside from jumping in the car and heading to Bathurst.

As a competing driver,it’s great to know that our efforts are appreciated.
I agree that live TV would improve the profile of the event, but at this stage of the events development it imposes a huge cost on the promoter and teams.
We hope with the growth of the event, that live coverage will become possible.
Thanks for your support. We look forward to your support of Production Car Racing rounds in the future.( Round 2 at Phillip Island 1st week of May)

Hi Trev. Thanks for explaining the lack of TV coverage. These days we are so used to seeing most of what we want on the box that we don’t always give a lot of thought to the expense involved.
I’ve sent you an email and will no doubt hear from you in due course.

When will someone wake up and get some real live TV pics on this avent, the fans are screaming out but no one is listening. 12 hours of Bathurst racing this is what the fans want, class racing at its best, V8s are getting boaring they need to change the format, two of the same cars with different bodies
Come on Fox or one of the networks get into it.
preferably not the 7 network

Should the re-charging infrastructure be in place, what is your view about all-electric cars:
