The visuals might not appeal to everyone but there’s no doubting the phenomenal performance of the Gumpert Apollo. Powered by a twin-turbo version of Audi’s 4.2L V8, the Apollo laid down a blisteringly-quick 1:17.1 power lap of Top Gear’s famed test track, pipping the Ascari A10 by a scant 0.2 seconds to take top honours - and we’ve got the clip right here.
If you haven’t already enjoyed the mayhem of Top Gear season 11, then check out these two clips featuring everyone’s favourite tamed racing driver, the mighty Stig, tearing it up in Gumpert’s baby. Bloody awesome!

I’d have one. I’ve got a thing for sequential shifters in track toys right now.
I think it looks good, in a purposeful kind of way. The Ariel Atom is no Van Gogh either, but Clarkson liked its minimalist “all you need is all you get” looks.
I don’t think it looks that bad either. It’s not TRYING to look elegant or sexy. It’s unapolagetically functional in its brutal styling and it’s kinda cool because of that.
Not really like a Ferrari F40 though, which in my opinion combines all those functional NACA ducts and slits and wings with beautiful proportions too.
I’m not disputing the Gumpert’s time, but it just didn’t look or seem that quick in the video clip. Very impressive time though.
That’s why it’s so quick. When you start doing track days you quickly realise that smooth = fast. I think it looks superb on the track, so well balanced.
With very few exceptions (and yes, 6:55 is an absolute blinder for an almost street legal car), the quicker you are the slower you look.
I’ve had pro drivers take me around the track in my car, to show me the lines and how to drive the car smoothly. Their steering inputs are so gentle and small, and the car always so planted, that it looks like they’re out on a Sunday drive. Their times, however, are very quick despite carrying a weight penalty (me), having to devote mental attention in explaining something to an idiot who needs to be able to observe their actions (me), and someone who’s likely to belt them if they drive the doors off the thing and crash it (me).
