Ford’s Mondeo is the latest diesel-powered vehicle to catch the eye of authorities in Germany, according to reports out of Europe.

Industry paper Automotive News cites German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche, which reports the Mondeo Diesel is suspected of running a ‘defeat device’ similar to that used by Volkswagen in the now-infamous dieselgate scandal.

Such a device could be used to cheat official emissions testing, but Ford was quick to answer the claims, saying none of its cars are running illegal devices.

“No illegal shut-off devices were used in our diesel exhaust after-treatment systems,” Ford Germany boss Gunnar Herrmann said.

“[We have] neither cheated, nor used tricks.”

Ford added it is cooperating with the German authorities.

The 2.0 TCDi engine is under scrutiny, and an unnamed facility has reportedly been tasked with testing the engine on behalf of Germany’s vehicle administration.

Ford joins Fiat Chrysler in the US and Daimler in Germany as companies outside the Volkswagen Group to undergo scrutiny from authorities over diesel emissions.

Porsche’s Cayenne diesel was recently ruled temporarily ineligible for registration in Germany due to diesel emissions.
