BMW has updated its 2 Series coupe and convertible range in Australia for 2018, bringing the small lifestyle vehicles into line with the 1, 3 and 4 Series.

Refreshed styling and limited standard gear upgrades are included in the update, but prices have risen to reflect the new spec levels.

Exterior touches on all models extend to re-worked front and rear bumpers, LED headlights and a tweaked grille.

The Bavarian automaker's latest iDrive6 infotainment system - which utilises an app-style tile display with voice, touch and dial operations – is now standard with the 230i and M240i utilising a larger 8.8-inch touchscreen.

Pricing for the three-pronged 2 Series ranges starts from $52,900 before on-road costs for the 220i Coupe and $59,900 for the 220i Convertible, which represents a $1600 increase over the previous model.

Both 220i models come equipped with Luxury Line trim as standard and feature 17-inch alloy wheels, DAB+ digital radio, leather sports steering wheel, Dakota leather upholstery, reversing camera with front and rear parking sensors and anti-dazzle mirrors.

Power for the 220i comes from BMW's 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit producing 135kW/270Nm, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with power delivered to the rear wheels.

The mid-range 230i models are priced from $63,000 and $73,00 for the coupe and convertible respectively, which is an increase of $1100.

Both 230i models come with the M Sport package as standard which includes the M aerodynamics, 18-inch alloy wheels, M Sport brakes, M leather steering wheel, M-specific digital instrument information, high-gloss exterior window surrounds and a dark grey headliner. The Coupe features cloth upholstery with Alcantara trim while the convertible scores Dakota leather upholstery and heated front seats.

Power comes from a higher-tuned version of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo that produces 185kW and 350Nm and is again paired with an eight-speed auto with power sent to the rear wheels.

The range-topping M240i now costs $76,800 in coupe guise and $85,800 as a convertible, making them $1900 more expensive than before.

Equipped with the M Sport trim line the M240i also adds unique 18-inch alloy wheels and M-tuned suspension with adaptive damper control enabling the selection of several different driving modes. The M240i comes with a 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon stereo, adaptive LED headlights and heated Dakota leather seats.

Both are powered by BMW's spritely 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine good for 250kW and 500Nm with power sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed auto.

All updated 2 Series models arrive in showrooms locally from September.
