Peugeot’s Australian relaunch is off to a flying start with confirmation of a five-star safety rating for the new 3008 SUV from the Australiasian New Car Assesment Program (ANCAP).

The 3008 scored 86 percent (32,89 out of 38 points) for adult occupant protection and 85 percent (41.98 out of 49 points) for child occupant protection with ANCAP highlighting a low risk of injury to front seat passengers in the full-width frontal test.

In the frontal offset test the driver rating drops to ‘marginal’ for chest area protection and ‘acceptable’ for lower leg protection, while pole test results also yielded an acceptable level of protection for the driver’s chest.

“The Peugeot 3008 performed well in testing with high scores achieved in the side impact and whiplash tests,” ANCAP CEO James Goodwin said.

Despite ANCAP’s push for more automakers to include advanced safety systems like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) across the range, the safety authority was surprisingly silent about the 3008’s lack of standard AEB on base models.

The 3008 Active and Allure both go without AEB as standard, although it is optional on the Allure as part of an Advanced Safety Pack which also includes active lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and active blind spot detection. The high-grade 3008 GT Line and 3008 GT include the safety pack as standard.

All 3008 models come with six airbags, driver fatigue detection, lane departure warning, and a distance alert system as well as a speed limit recognition system which can identify road signs and allow the driver to adjust the speed limiter accordingly - a system that earned the praise of ANCAP.

The 3008’s safety systems received a 58 percent score (7 out of 12) while pedestrian protection was rated 67 percent (28.2 out of 42 points).
