Lexus has confirmed that its updated hybrid hatch, the CT 200h will be available in Australia from the fourth quarter of 2017.

Having first launched in Australia in 2011 this update is the second in the small five-door’s model run, with front and rear stying changes, plus a revised infotainment system available.

"The car is more emotional and sporty than before, making it the ideal premium hybrid compact for younger customers who enjoy spirited driving, but still care about the environment," Lexus Global chief engineer, Chika Kako said.

Changes include a more aggressive front bumper with restyled mesh insert filling Lexus’ divisive spindle grille. New headlights with ‘arrowhead’ running lights will also be available on high-grade models.

The rear bumper also gets a nip and tuck, while the tail light internals feature a new lighting signature designed to give a lower, wider appearance.

The dressed-up F Sport version (pictured) scores a black metallic finish on its grille, front and rear bumpers, fog light surrounds and rear bumper mesh inserts. Newly designed 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels are also available.

In the cabin Lexus has made its latest generation 10.3-inch infotainment system available, taking the place of the previous 7.0-inch screen. Two tone finishes for the fabric and synthetic leather interior are also available.

Lexus Safety System+ will come standard across the range with radar cruise control, lane departure warning including steering control, pre-collision system with autonomous emergency braking, and auto high beam all included.

The CT 200h is Lexus’ only purely-hybrid vehicle, but its sales success hasn’t matched that of its german rivals, with only 300,000 cars sold globally since its launch, and total sales expected to tip beyond 6500 in Australia this month.

That compares to over 6000 Audi A3s sold last year alone. So far in 2017 the CT 200h has been outsold by not only the A3, but also the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class, BMW 1 Series, and the Volvo V40.

Full pricing and specification details for Australia will be revealed closer to the updated model’s on-sale date.
