Ford Australia has announced that it will introduce a range of genuine Ford Performance components for the Mustang, bringing factory-backed upgrades to the iconic American sports car.

Following a lengthy certification process, Ford is now able to offer a range of parts that might otherwise have only been available through aftermarket or third-party suppliers, bringing the Mustang into line with Ford’s sporty Fiesta ST and Focus ST hatches Though unlike those Mountune kits, the Mustang goes without engine upgrades, leaving engine mods to aftermarket tuners like Tickford.

Instead the Ford Performance collection (not to be confused with the former Ford Performance Vehicles tuning arm) will bring track-ready handling to the Mustang, with Ford suggesting that the improved handling comes at no cost to everyday driveability.

The full Track Handling Pack consists of lowered coil-springs, assembled front struts, upper strut mounts, rear shocks, sway bars, rear toe links and toe-to-knuckle bearings. The lowered coil springs are also available in blue and black finishes with the kit priced at $4130.

Those looking for a more sporty stance without the full-on handling makeover can opt for $1260 ‘street’ lowering springs, which drop the Mustang’s ride height by 25mm. Ford will also fit blue coil covers to the V8 to match the springs if that’s your thing for $222.

Rather than selecting from off-the-shelf parts, Ford has specifically developed the the package for the Mustang, in line with its Australian specifications

Ford Performance testing engineer Andy Vrenko said, "We wanted to make a product that would be completely unique and special for this car."

"So we used production processes and production suppliers, and we developed parts that are engineered and tuned for this car and our performance goals. This kit is unique, and none of the parts are available anywhere else," said Vrenko.

Ford will also offer Mustang GT owners an exhaust system upgrade for the 5.0-litre V8 engine only, consisting of a mandrel-bent 2.5-inch exhaust system available with a choice of either chrome or black 4.0-inch finishers for $3584.

The final addition to the Ford Performance range comes in the form of a short-throw shift-kit for the six-speed manual transmission, topped by a Ford Performance branded gear knob, (priced at $805) which Ford claims reduces throw distance up 19 percent.

When purchased with a new Mustang, the Performance Parts are covered by a three-year/100,000km warranty, but when fitted to an already purchased Mustang the warranty is only 12-months/20,000km.
