Subaru has announced pricing and specifications for its new XV hatch-based SUV ahead of the new model’s Australian arrival in June.

Like the Impreza hatch upon which the XV is based, a manual option is no longer available making the cheapest XV $1250 more expensive than than the last - but like-for like the XV 2.0i automatic comes down in price by $1250, starting from $27,990 plus on-road costs.

The XV range will be powered by a new version of the brand’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine which produces 115kW and 196Nm, up by 5kW compared to the outgoing model, with torque remaining the same. All XVs are equipped with Subaru's all-wheel drive system driven through a CVT automatic transmission.

At the entry point to the range the 2.0i comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights, rear privacy glass and a rear spoiler. Inside all XV variants are fitted with a touchscreen infotainment system which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring and Bluetooth connectivity.

Safety equipment includes seven airbags, a reversing camera and autonomous emergency braking. The XV also comes fitted with Subaru's torque vectoring system, which pushes torque to specific wheels when cornering.

The 2.0i-L upgrades the touchscreen to a ‘premium’ 8.0-inch system and adds electric folding mirrors, leather trimmed steering wheel and gear lever, higher grade cloth trim and Subaru's Eyesight safety tech which includes lane keep assist.

Moving up to the 2.0i Premium brings an electric sunroof and satellite navigation navigation, while the flagship 2.0i-S includes 18-inch alloy wheels, auto headlights and wipers, adaptive LED headlights, chrome exterior door handles, heated mirrors, sports pedals and leather trim.

Safety also steps up on the 2.0i-S with blind spot monitoring, high beam assist, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert and auto reverse braking.

The XV also features from Subaru's new improved three year capped price servicing regime that has intervals of 12,500km/12-month and a three-year operating cost of $1298.19, slashed by 38.9 percent compared to the previous plan.

First deliveries of the new XV are expected by mid-June.
