A leaked video of the Korean-market Kia Stinger reveals that the brand’s most powerful product could arrive missing a key feature: an evocative soundtrack.

With a swooping five-door body, rear-wheel drive dynamics and a 270kW twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6 engine under the bonnet, the Stinger promises to deliver a level of excitement previously unseen from the Korean brand.

But a pair of videos shot during a domestic market preview event in Korea reveal a rather flat sounding exhaust note emanating from the V6-powered Stinger - the pitch is definitely six-cylinder, but as for aural excitement… well you can be the judge.

It’s worth noting, of course, that as good as a modern mobile phone camera might be, without proper audio equipment an exhaust note can often be mistaken for ‘background noise’ by some smart phones, and reduced as part of the recording process.

Also for consideration, different markets require varying levels of drive-by noise restriction with a majority of Asian markets particularly stringent on the amount of noise cars can make in their standard configuration.

Europe, the USA, and even Australia are all slightly more lenient in their noise requirements - though each market’s allowable noise limits vary slightly. That leaves hope that more depth, and maybe even some crackle and pop could make their way into the Stinger's soundtrack locally.

Unfortunately we won’t know the answer until the Stinger launches in Australia later this year, but with local development work nearing completion hopefully the wait won’t be too long.

Check out the video below and let us know what you think of the Stinger GT’s soundtrack.
