Holden will attempt to ‘break the internet’ today when the window opens on requests for build numbers on the trio of limited edition Commodore models.

The Director, Motorsport Edition and Magnum Ute were all snapped up within around 24 hours when the order book opened earlier this year, as Holden customers were keen to secure a piece of Australian automotive history.

And today, they must fight it out again, in an internet blood bath (of sorts) to secure their chosen build numbers.

A total of 1200 Motorsport Editions, 360 Directors and just 240 Magnums were initially on offer, and each will wear a build plate to signify its place in the production run.

Once the window opens at midday, it’s strictly a ‘first in, best dressed’ policy.

There’s no holding time once a build number has been selected, so the first to log in, select the build number, and then click the ‘go’ button will walk away from the keyboard smiling. Those beaten to the finish line will have to quickly attempt to secure their second or subsequent choices.

And for those simply happy to know that a limited edition Commodore model will soon be parked in their garage, regardless of the number on the build plate, Holden will allocate a number from the remaining choices.

The obvious favourites might have been ‘Number One’ or the last of each build run, but both of these options will likely be unavailable. Holden is holding those aside for a future charity auction, and one example of each model could claim a place in Holden’s heritage collection once production in Australia winds up in October.

From 2018, the Commodore reverts to fully-imported status with no rear-wheel-drive or eight cylinder options in the range.
