Before the regular hard-top model's even dropped and only weeks after its initial unveiling at the London Motor Show, Lotus has confirmed that a convertible will be joining taking up a slot in the Evora line.

With the Evora expected to be released in 2009, the convertible will join its sibling in 2011, and is expected to keep Lotus' expectation of 2000 Evora sales per year on target.

While there is not much information at this point, it is known that the Evora's platform was designed to be as versatile as the Elise, meaning that a convertible or targa option should bring little sacrifice to performance and handling.

Other rumours swirling around at the moment include a possible S version, utilising a supercharger to boost power to an astonishing 298kW, up from the standard Evora's 208kW. Between these two models may also come a couple of upgrades, bringing power up to around 238kW.

The Evora's central chassis is expected to underpin the upcoming V8-powered replacement for the Esprit, also due around 2011.
