While you can probably fry an egg on a car bonnet in Tennant Creek today, it’s the opposite in wintery North Sweden where BMW is testing the new X3 SUV.

Operating out of a town called Arjeplog, Lapland – just 56kms south of the Polar Circle – the German team is putting the xDrive four-wheel-drive technology (and of course the dynamic stability and traction control) through the ringer in temperatures 20 degrees below freezing as the latest X3 gets ready for launch later this year.

Up there, all the roads are firmly packed with snow and the lakes are frozen, so the new X3 will be able to comfortably handle the worst of the summer and autumn deluges which have brought floods to Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts in recent days.

Sure puts into perspective BMW’s ‘driving pleasure’ tag-line. Stay tuned to TMR for more.
