Mazda has announced a recall of its BT-50 range for models sold between October 2011 and December 2012 (UP series).

The recall affects automatic transmission versions only, where the output shaft speed sensor may fail, resulting in an unintended downshift to first gear.

If the failure occurs while the vehicle is in motion the resulting wheel speed reduction could cause the rear tyres to slide or lock up until the vehicle slows, which could lead to a loss of vehicle control.

Mazda will contact affected owners by mail to arrange a free inspection in repair, but owners wishing to know more are advised to contact their local dealer, or Mazda customer support on 1800 034 411.

Ford has not yet announced a recall for the mechanically similar Ranger, but TMR will provide any information should a recall arise.
