A candidate for star billing at the Geneva Motor Show in a couple of weeks is surely this open-top Pagani Huayra Roadster looking resplendent in its blue carbon-fibre bodywork.

Just behind the passenger cell sits an upgraded version of the Mercedes-AMG 6.0-litre V12 engine delivering 563kW at 6,200rpm and over 1,000Nm of torque – the latter available from as low as 2,400rpm. Drive is via a new seven-speed Xtrac automated manual transmission (the same unit fitted to the Huayra BC).

Tipping the scales at 1,280kgs, the Pagani Huayra Roadster is actually 80kgs lighter than the hardtop version and, thanks to increased use of composite materials, boasts better torsional rigidity.

Pagani says the Roadster’s suspension is 25 percent lighter than the hardtop model – an achievement credited to the use of ‘HiForg’ which is a new lightweight aluminium alloy.

Braking is handled by new Brembo carbon ceramic discs (380x34mm discs with 6-piston calipers at the front and 380x34mm discs with 4-piston calipers at the rear).

Tyres (20-inch front and 21-inch rears) were exclusively developed by Pirelli and the sidewalls show the initials HP (in recognition of Pagani’s founder Horacio Pagani).

The Huayra Roadster comes with a choice of two roofs – fabric or a lightweight carbon version with a central glass element – which can be stored inside when not in use.

All 100 Pagani Huayra Roadsters slated for production have found owners – at a price of $US2.41 million (AU$3.13 million) each.
