Audi is preparing to offer a second look at its Q8 SUV Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show in March, hot on the heels of the concept’s Detroit Auto Show introduction.

The production preview is set to move slightly closer to reality compared with the first show car, and this time around Audi Sport will have a hand in its preparation.

Unlike the Detroit concept which features a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the RS Q8 is likely to do without electric assistance, instead using a version of Audi’s 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8, tuned to provide in excess of 450kW.

Britain’s Autocar reports that the RS Q8 will use an enhanced version of the 445kW/700Nm engine used in the RS 7 Performance and S8 Plus, making it Audi’s most powerful SUV yet - although the diesel S Q7 will still have it pipped for torque at 900Nm.

Aimed at competitors like the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe and BMW X6 M, Audi sources suggest a sub-5.0 second 0-100 km/h time, and with both rivals capable of low four-second sprints Audi is likely to come in quite a way under that figure.

The usual RS styling transformation will also be applied to the RS Q8, although with the first Q8 concept (pictured) featuring huge front intakes and a massive single-frame grille it remains to be seen how much bolder the RS Q8 will become.

A lowered ride height and deeper bumpers are expected, along with upsized alloy wheels, and carefully engineered airflow revisions to guide engine cooling airflow whilst keeping the RS Q8 stable it its estimated 300 km/h V-max.

Inside the RS Q8 will receive unapologetically grippy front seats, a race-ready flat bottomed steering wheel, and comprehensive rework of interior materials with a strong carbon fibre presence compared to the first Q8 concept.

Expect the high-definition touchscreen displays of the first concept to be carried over as well, along with all-LED lighting, previewing Audi’s next generation production systems.
