Citroen has given its new C3 light car the raised Aircross treatment in a new concept set to be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

Called the C-Aircross, the concept is designed to preview an SUV styled replacement for the C3 Picasso form, matching the trend of others (and market demands) as the Picasso morphs from an MPV to an SUV.

The Aircross continues the C3’s styling changes - which itself, include steps towards ‘SUV-ism’ - including cladding on the wheel arches and the ‘air bump’ rubber strips first seen on the C4 Cactus.

There’s also a raised bonnet matched with a revised front bumper, daytime running lights, cameras in place of side rear-view mirrors and rear ‘suicide’ doors. The concept measures 4150mm long, 1630mm high and 1740mm wide.

Like the C4 Cactus Rip Curl limited edition model that arrived in Australia last year, the C-Aircross is equipped with Citroen’s Grip Control system with five selectable modes.

Rather than go for all-wheel-drive, the C-Aircross instead relies on front-wheel-drive with the driver able to choose between Standard, Sand, Off-Road and Snow modes, or the driver can turn the electronic stability control off.

Inside, there’s a 12-inch touchscreen with 3D navigation system, voice recognition, a sunroof, head-up display and wireless mobile phone charging along with seats with inbuilt speakers and microphones.

The Citroen C3 Picasso is due to arrive in European showrooms sometime next year.

In Australia, the regular C3 was sidelined in 2015 while Citroen’s local HQ waited for the all-new model. Now that it has arrived, the C3 is “likely” to re-enter the Australian market this year.
