Unlike the larger Volkswagen Atlas, with which the Tiguan Allspace will share the show stand with, the long-wheelbase Tiguan will be offered outside of North America, with a late 2017 Australian launch already locked in.
The Allspace’s third row of seating has been deployed in a body that is 218mm longer than the standard Tiguan with the wheelbase stretched by 112mm. For the US market the long wheelbase Tiguan will also be offered in a five-seat variant, though in Australia and Europe the short wheelbase model will continue to fill that role.
Cargo capacity has also been boosted as a result of the body stretch, though Volkswagen is yet to reveal official figures.
As with the Tiguan already on sale in Australia the Allspace will be available with city emergency braking, multi-collision braking, Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Exact specifications and final pricing for Australian versions of the Tiguan Allspace will be announced closer to the new variant’s launch in late 2017.
