The Volkswagen ID concept, first shown at the Paris Motor Show a few months back, is on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The ID debuts the German giant’s Modular Electric Drive kit (MEB) and is a preview of a production model slated for launch in 2020.

Range between battery re-charges is claimed to be 600 kilometres.

Significantly it also equipped with Volkswagen’s fully autonomous ID Pilot driving mode. Expect this system to debut in 2025.

But there is much more on display in Vegas as Volkswagen shows the staggering breadth of its digital age technology.

Among the show-stoppers is the Volkswagen User-ID. This enables a Volkswagen owner to have their own individual vehicle settings and services (down to details like preferred interior ambient lighting) and transfer them to any other Volkswagen - including rental cars - they may drive.

Visitors to the Volkswagen stand can use the Volkswagen CES app to create their own profile and try it out in the displayed Connected Car.

Intuitive controls are also on Volkswagen’s agenda and debuting in Vegas, as part of the interactive experience, is the 3D Digital Cockpit with two overlaid screens for exceptional image quality and depth.

Taking touch and gesture control one step further is Volkswagen’s Eyetracking system which, as the name suggests, will allow vehicle systems to be operated even faster.

And Volkswagen’s ‘AR Head-up Display’ is the next chapter in this technology with augmented reality graphics seemingly appearing on the road ahead - claimed to be easier to read and less distracting than current head-up displays.
