Flash of Genius Trailer

When we post news of upcoming car movies, well, it’s usually just another throwaway action flick.  This one’s a bit different.

Flash of Genius tells the story of Bob Kearns, the inventor of the intermittent window wiper, and his battle with Ford for recognition after they stole it from him. A struggling but happy family man and college professor, Kearns believed he’d struck gold when he solved on his own the problem none of the automakers had been able to overcome.

When Ford came to Kearns with an offer he couldn’t refuse, it seemed like a dream come true.  Until they claimed it as their own work, and locked him out of the project.  Kearns becomes obsessed with pursuing justice and recognition for his work, and for the work of anyone similarly overrun.

Starring the brilliant Greg Kinnear and the Gilmore Girls’ Lauren Graham, Flash of Genius looks as though it will be a sobering reminder of the overwhelming greed of big business, and a heartwarming insight into the bright light of the human spirit.

Greg Kinnear seems to be having somethingo of a reprise of his struggling entreprenurial role in Little Miss Sunshine.

Oh visionaries, the lines you tread between genius and deluded sociopath are so fine.

I know someone a similar thing happened to. He inventied the quick release shackle for excavator buckets. Patented the design, then showed it to JCB UK. Within 4 months they released their own version. a specialist patent lawyer told him it was a clear breach of copyright, offered to pursue JCB in the courts but needed £600k up front. But alas he could not afford it and sold a license for peanuts to Kabuto instead. How sad.

Welcome to the world of big business.

I saw the trailer for this last week, and its the kind of thing that just makes you so angry.

I’m a huge Lauren Graham fan some I’ve been following this project for the last year. The trailer is powerful and screams Oscar!

I wonder what Ford thinks about the movie?

I vow to never buy another Ford product. Anyone else?

I feel the sentiment, Albert, but I reckon more companies than just Ford have been guilty of things like this. Ford were just the ‘unlucky’ ones who got theirs turned into a movie!
