Volkswagen has recalled its Tiguan SUV in Australia this week due to concerns over the strength of the front seats.

The German carmaker says a laser welded seam on the seat backrests may not have been correctly aligned during the manufacturing process.

During a serious collision, the seat’s ability to offer maximum protection to the user may be compromised, potentially increasing the risk of injury.

A total of 707 Tiguans are on the recall list for Australia, with all being recent examples built for the 2017 model-year.

Volkswagen’s recall program in Australia will be a busy one over the coming months (or years), as the carmaker recently declared that 60,000 vehicles are now eligible for attention over the ‘dieselgate’ emissions saga.

The carmaker’s local arm has finally been given clearance by the Federal Government to extend the voluntary recall of vehicles fitted with the EA189 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine beyond the 9000 Amarok utes that were first announced earlier this year.

Volkswagen will attempt to contact affected Tiguan owner shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Volkswagen Group Australia on 1800 607 822.
