Toyota has this week recalled its HiAce work van in Australia, due to a potential problem with the rear sliding doors.

The carmaker says the HiAce Crew Van, which is equipped with rear passenger seats, may not comply with some Australian Design Rules (ADRs).

As the distance between the seats and the door can exceed 100mm, passengers may be at risk should the door open whilst the vehicle is moving. Toyota says no incidents have been reported in Australia as a result of this condition.

The Japanese carmaker will therefore add a new latch system to both driver- and passenger-side rear sliding doors.

The recall process will take approximately 1.5 hours, and all works will be performed at no charge to owners.

Around 500 HiAces are included in the recall in Australia, built between January 2015 and October of this year.

Last month, Toyota added 179,000 vehicles to its already-lengthy recall list in Australia for the Takata airbag saga as part of an ongoing campaign affecting many carmakers around the world.

Toyota will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Toyota Australia on 1800 869 682.
