Jeep’s new upper-large SUV, the Grand Wagoneer, has been leaked in what looks to be a pair of teaser images.
The images appeared on several US posts, including Jalopnik, and show the outline of the new model’s front and rear styling.
While it’s possible that the images actually preview the next Grand Cherokee, the model pictured appears to be wider and more upmarket than the current Grand Cherokee.
It’s unclear when Jeep was planning to release the images, but a recent Jeep dealer event in the US appears to be the source of the leak.
Or, the Wagoneer may aim even higher when it comes to market, with reports out of Europe pointing to starting prices potentially well north of US$100,000.
“When I see a Range Rover on the street, my blood boils, because we should be able to do a thing like that - and we will,” Fiat Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne said during an interview last year.
While its rivals are well credentialed off the beaten track, it remains to be seen exactly how comfortable the Grand Wagoneer will be in the same territory.
But as Jeep has recently signalled its intentions to push its outdoor lifestyle image, it’s safe to assume the Wagoneer will be more than capable off road.
Powerplants could potentially be shared with the Maserati Levante, meaning both petrol and diesel engines with six or eight cylinders.
A Jeep timeline from a few years back suggested a 2018 debut for the Grand Wagoneer, but this is the first time an image of what may become the finished product has materialised.
Given Australia’s current thirst for SUV models of all shapes and sized, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer would be a likely starter for the local market if it is built in right-hand-drive.
