Nissan has this week revealed its fifth-generation Micra at the Paris Motor Show, giving a first look at how its global micro car will look.

The new model places a strong emphasis on personalisation - with a choice of 10 exterior colours, three interior combinations and a range of decal packs and wheel finishes. In total, there are 125 possible combinations.

Styling for the new Micra moves beyond the 'emerging market' look and feel of the current model to instead follow Nissan’s newer design direction.

The new Micra wears a bold V-motion grille already adopted on overseas versions of the X-trail, Pulsar, and Altima, as well as a ‘floating roof’ look, thanks to black-out panels on the B- and C-pillars and hidden rear door handles.

Unveiled by Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, he said of the new Micra “to me the fifth generation Micra, the Micra Gen5 is just as innovative as the original. This new generation Micra will also raise expectations of what a hatchback can, and should, deliver to its customers."

The Micra’s dimensions are now also 77mm wider and 174mm longer, allowing for additional interior space, while a greater range of seat and steering wheel adjustment ensures a better fit for drivers of all sizes.

Segment firsts for the compact Micra include premium Bose six-speaker audio with headrest mounted speakers for the driver, while the infotainment package includes a seven-inch touchscreen, loaded with satellite navigation along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Safety gets a step-up as well with the first appearance of Lane Departure Prevention in a B-segment car as well as Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition, Intelligent Around View Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Assist and Blind Spot Warning.

Under the bonnet, Nissan will introduce the Micra with two turbocharged engines, a 0.9 litre petrol three-cylinder and 1.5 litre four-cylinder diesel, both rated at 66kW.

A naturally-aspirated 54kW 1.0 litre petrol joins the range later. For Europe, all engines will be paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

Production for Europe will take place at Renault’s Flin production facility, as part of the Renault Nissan alliance, with Australian sourcing and specifications still to be confirmed.
