The updated Rondo (Carens in other markets) goes on-sale in Europe from next month and Kia Australia says our version – not quite the same – will also arrive within a few weeks.
Kia Australia’s Kev Hepworth told TMR: “We will be getting a MY17 Rondo update very shortly. It is not exactly the same as the Euro model but there are some significant changes in our model lineup.”
Most obvious in the European Carens is the new-look front-end with a more purposeful ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, as well as a new-design bumper and fog-lights. Plus there are three new alloy wheel designs, new rear light clusters and a new rear bumper.
Inside are new cloth and leather seat trims, a carbon-effect dashboard trim and new metallic/gloss black highlights. In Europe, the Kia Carens is offered with either black or beige upholstery.
And centre-dashboard, the updated Carens adds the latest version of Kia’s HMI (human-machine interface) with either a 7.0-inch or 8.0-inch screen with navigation, audio and rear parking camera displays and which adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. An up-spec JBL Premium Sound system is on the options list.
Debuting in the latest Rondo is Kia’s ‘DRiVE WISE driver assistance system with Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Speed Limiter amongst its menu.
And European Kia Carens models fitted with the reduced output 85kW diesel engine (no diesel currently on offer in Australia) can add a fuel-saving Eco Pack with auto start-stop, taller gear ratios and Michelin low rolling-resistance tyres to eek-out even lower fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
