Not for the first time in history it will be Italy Vs Germany from next year when Ferrari launches the V8-powered version of its four-seat GTC4 Lusso - the GTC4 Lusso T.

Set for debut in a couple of weeks at the Paris Motor Show - so local prices and specifications are still being determined - the GTC4 Lusso T has Ferrari Australia boss Herbert Appleroth fist-pumping as he can see buyers of cars like the Porsche Panamera Turbo casting an eye in the direction of Maranello, Italy.

In fact Ferrari Australia will be showing the gorgeous new V8 model to prospective buyers here and in New Zealand during November.

And while Ferrari Australia has 12 months of orders in its books for the V12 GTC4 Lusso, the ‘Ferraristi’ will quickly tell you the GTC4 Lusso T is significant as it’s the first-ever full four-seat V8 Ferrari - so you’ll need to move fast to get your order in for 2018.

Power comes from a 449kW/760Nm version of Ferrari’s 3.9-litre twin-turbo 90-degree V8 (the 2016 International Engine Of The Year) driving the rear wheels via Ferrari’s seven-speed sequential automatic transmission.

Of course this engine has Ferrari’s brilliant Variable Boost Management system (as we know from the 488 and California T) which virtually eliminates turbocharger lag at low speeds and goes on to deliver maximum torque as well in gears three through seven.

The Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T weighs-in at 1740gs - a fair bit lighter than the V12 GTC4 Lusso (1920kgs).

So the new V8 covers zero to 100km/h in 3.5-seconds (just one-tenth slower than the V12).

Fuel consumption is considerably better at 11.6 l/100kms (not yet officially homologated) for the V8 - it’s 15.0 l/100kms for the V12.

Otherwise the V8 Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T mirrors its V12 stablemate with rear-wheel-steering and the third generation of Ferrari’s tremendous Side Slip Control system.

With that lighter weight, rear-wheel-drive and 46:54 weight distribution it might just be that the V8 GTC Lusso T is a sharper drive than the AWD V12.

Inside both models share the same gorgeous layout, style and materials which ensure the usual unique Ferrari glamour and sportiness - in a four-seat configuration - and with the latest infotainment system featuring a 10.25-inch HD capacitive touchscreen centre dashboard.

“The GTC4Lusso T is a fantastic addition to our family,” Mr Appleroth enthused. “V8s outsell V12s in this segment by four-to-one and this car will attract younger family buyers who would not have previously considered Ferrari as a possibility.”
