In a teaser video, fans get a glimpse of the new model from side-on - but that’s about it.
The carmaker is otherwise playing its cards close to its chest, although reports out or Europe suggest the roadster will carry the simple name of ‘GT C’.
The roof will likely be a folding soft top to keep weight down, and the interior will have room for only two seats.
Powerplants may mirror those from the GT hardtop range, including the 4.0 litre twin-turbo petrol V8s used in the GT, GT R and GT S models in their various states of tune.
Earlier this year, AMG boss Tobias Moers reportedly confirmed a 2017 showroom debut for the GT Roadster, taking the opportunity to assure fans it would not be a watered-down version of the GT hardtop.
“The convertible has moved well beyond the drawing board,” Moers said.
“It will be the next AMG GT model to arrive.”
Moers went on to say the GT roadster was “absolutely [a] proper sports car”, adding that the new model would not encroach on the Mercedes-Benz SL’s segment of the market.
More should be revealed by Mercedes-AMG in the lead-up to the Paris Motor Show - stay tuned, and check out the video below.
