Holden is ready to roll its new Trailblazer seven-seat SUV into showrooms - offering a fresh face and an engineering overhaul over the outgoing Colorado 7 range.

Unlike softer more city-centric SUVs, the Trailblazer is built atop a ‘proper’ off-roadable ladder frame chassis and features selectable high and low-range four-wheel-drive.

Power comes from a revised version of the 2.8 litre Duramax four-cylinder turbo diesel, with refinement advances thanks to new engine, transmission, and body mounts.

Outputs remain unchanged, with 147kW of power and 500Nm of torque. Both Trailblazer variants are fitted with a six-speed automatic.

On the outside the Trailblazer can be picked apart from the Colorado 7 by a new front facia design shared with the Colorado ute range.

More substantial changes have taken place inside thanks to a new dash, new instrument cluster, and redesigned door trims.

The centrepiece of the new dash is Holden’s 8.0-inch MyLink touchscreen multimedia unit, equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity, as well as Bluetooth phone and audio, and reversing camera, with satellite navigation reserved for the LTZ.

Standard features of the Trailblazer LT include 17-inch alloy wheels, rear park sensors, cloth seat trim, auto headlights, cruise control, and keyless entry. Safety is covered by seven airbags (including a driver’s knee bag), hill start assist, and stability control with trailer sway control.

Stepping up to the LTZ (pictured) adds 18 inch alloy wheels, leather appointed seat trim, heated front seats, climate control, front park assist, LED tail lights, rain sensing wipers, and remote start. Exrta safety features include forward collision alert, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and tyre pressure monitoring.

The 2017 Holden Trailblazer is on sale now, pricing for the LT is unchanged compared to the Colorado 7, while the LTZ has risen by $1000.

Trailblazer LT $47,990
Trailblazer LTZ $52,490
