A Volvo historical video reveals the upcoming all-new all wheel drive Volvo V90 Cross Country.

Launch of the V90 Cross Country crossover is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show in a couple of weeks and continues Volvo’s current SUV makeover which started in 2015 with the all-new XC90.

Volvo’s SUV theme started back in 1997 with the first V70 Cross Country, following the lead of the Subaru Outback with more unique front and rear bumpers, raised ride-height, and all wheel drive, and shifted into a higher gear three years later with the XC90.

By its second generation the V70 Cross Country had a name change to become the XC70 - still based on the V70 wagon with SUV-inspired extras. The third generation XC70 arrived in 2007.

The fourth generation Volvo V90 Cross Country - like the Volkswagens Passat Alltrack and Audi A6 Allroad – scores a tougher exterior style with sturdy skid plates front and rear as well as plastic protection around the wheel-arches and bumpers.

And as we know from the svelte regular V90, styling includes Volvo’s latest looks including tail-lights which extend from the tailgate and up into the D-pillars.

Inside the V90 Cross Country is expected to carry-over the luxurious interior of the V90 and S90 sedan including the portrait format 12.3-inch touch screen which covers many functions and enables the rest of the cockpit to be free of dials and switches.

As with the other 90-series vehicles before it, the V90 Cross Country will be built atop Volvo's modular Scalable Product Architecture.

No official word on powertrains but expect the twin-charged T6 petrol and D5 twin-turbo diesel in both all wheel drive as well as the possibly of front-wheel-drive for some markets.
