Arriving as the ‘missing link’ the 2017 Haval H6 is set to fill the gap in the Chinese SUV maker’s line-up between the small H2 and large H8 and H9 ranges.

Slotting in against competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5, the H6 is marketed with the aim of lifting Haval’s profile in Australia by competing in Australia’s second largest vehicle segment (behind small passenger cars).

Sold as the H6 Coupe in China, the H6 for Australia features a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 145kW and 315Nm, giving the H6 an immediate advantage against its mainstream opposition.

For the time being the H6 range is only available with front wheel drive, via a six-speed dual-clutch Getrag automatic transmission.

Two H6 variants will be available in Australia, H6 Premium and H6 LUX with the Premium arriving with dual-zone climate control, automatic lights and wipers, cruise control, keyless entry and start, fabric seat trim, rear privacy glass, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The H6 LUX ups the ante with heated front and rear seats, power adjustable front seats, man-made leather trim, a panoramic sunroof with powered blind, a nearside parking camera, xenon headlights, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Both Premium and LUX feature a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with reversing camera, however satellite navigation is not available in Australia on either variant yet.

Standard safety features include six airbags, rear ISOFIX child seat anchor points, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, active front head restraints, electronic stability control, blind spot monitoring, and ABS brakes.

“The H6 is perfectly positioned to build on the strong foundations we have created in our first year in the market,” Haval Australia’s chief marketing officer, Tim Smith said.

“We now have a competitor that offers a fantastic proposition for Australian customers in the medium SUV segment - one of the biggest in the country.”

Pricing

Haval is launching the H6 with driveaway pricing in Australia until the end of December, although the offer is expected to be extended.

H6 Premium $29,990 driveaway
H6 LUX $33,990 driveaway
