Jeep has issued a recall for two models this week, with each affected by a potential wiring harness problem.

The carmaker says “the transaxle wiring harness may have been built with insufficient wire terminal crimp(s), causing an intermittent high electrical resistance in the transaxle wire harness circuit(s)”.

As a result, a fault code with the on-board diagnostics may be recorded due to high resistance circuits in the wiring harness.

Jeep says the issue could cause a loss of motive power leading to a collision, causing a hazard for the vehicle occupant and other road users.

The two models targeted by the recall are the 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and the 2015 Jeep Renegade.

A total of 7201 Cherokees are on the recall list locally, but while the Renegade is included in the global recall notice, no examples are affected in Australia.

Jeep will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or contact Jeep (FCA Australia) on 1300 133 079.
