Mitsubishi has expanded its recall in Australia for the Pajero 4WD as part of the ongoing Takata airbag saga.

As with other Takata airbag recalls, the problem centres around the airbag’s inflator unit which could rupture when the airbag deploys.

Should this occur, metal fragments from the inflator may strike occupants in the cabin resulting in injury or even death.

A total of 57,128 vehicles are on the list for Australia, which includes NS, NT, NW and NX Pajeros from the 2007-2016 model-years. The driver’s-side airbag is targeted in this latest recall.

The 57,000 Pajeros recalled now join another 57,000 Triton pickups which were recalled in July, again for Takata airbag issues.

The Japanese carmaker also recalled selected Pajeros in July for other reasons as part of a wide-ranging recall of almost 430,000 cars.

Mitsubishi will attempt to contact affected owners shortly (when parts become available), but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1300 131 211.
