Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing and specifications for its 2017 SL-Class range, which brings more power, more gear ratios, new features and cheaper pricing for the updated roadster.
Three models will be available for customers in Australia: the SL 400, SL 500 and the Mercedes-AMG SL 63.
Each SL model has a stand-alone powerplant for Australia, with the SL 400 powered by a 3.0 litre V6 bi-turbo petrol engine making 270kW and 500Nm.
The SL 500 steps up to V8 petrol-power in the form of a 335kW/700Nm 4.7 litre unit, while the SL 63 gets a 5.5 litre bi-turbo V8 making 430kW and a hefty 900Nm of torque.
The 400 and 500 come with Active Body Control and all SLs in Australia are now fitted with Benz’s 9G-Tronic, nine-speed automatic transmission with five selectable driving modes: Curve, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual.
Features for the SL 400 include leather trim including heated and vented sports seats, a 600 watt surround sound system with 11 speakers and TV tuner, an ambient lighting pack, ‘Comand Online’ with Apple CarPlay along with 19-inch wheels.
Over the SL 400, the SL 500 gets Nappa leather with Black Ash high gloss wood trim, a wood/leather steering wheel and power-closing doors.
Aside from its 4.1 second 0-100km/h time, reasons to dig deep for the AMG SL 63 include 20-inch wheels for the rear (fronts 19-inch), Exclusive Nappa leather multi-contour seats and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
There’s also plenty of AMG goodies for the SL 63, including sports exhaust, sports suspension, locking rear differential and AMG performance brakes.
Safety features include attention assist, an active bonnet, reversing camera, brake assist, active cruise control with steering assist and six airbags.
"Only the SL delivers such a unique blend of driving pleasure: a pure, sporty roadster feeling or relaxed, comfortable cruising,” Benz’s Ola Källenius said.
“It's a dream car that fulfils its owner's wishes with technical perfection."
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL range is available to order now, with hefty price-cuts across the board.
