Longstanding fans of the Citroen brand will recall the CX of the 1970s, the successor to the iconic DS range. Now Citroen has revelaed its CXperience concept as the star of this year's Paris Motor Show stand.

At 4.85-metres in length, Citroen’s four-door coupe is no shrinking violet. Sizewise it's longer than the current C5 sedan which is currently being phased out, and Citoren's last 'executive saloon' the C6 which bowed out of the Australian market in 2012.

Unlike its predecessors, the CXperience features a high-tech propulsion solution with a 200kW plug-in hybrid system.

It stands only 1.37-metres tall - so it’s long and low and the concept car to bow in Paris rides on 22-inch alloy wheels.

And inside the glamorous interior another Citroen hallmark makes a return - the single-spoke steering wheel.

The interior, inspired by architecture and furnishings, advances the Citroen Advanced Comfort program. It’s large and sumptuous but simple and contemporary.

Technology isn’t overlooked either with personal ‘sound bubbles’ enabling individual passengers to select their personal preference thanks to an integrated network of microphones and speakers.

And centre dashboard is a massive 19-inch LCD touchscreen covering most of the major functions which enables the rest of the dash to be free of controls.

Below the rear-vision mirror is a built-in HD camera to record the view in-front for later playback.

Exterior styling is also from the CX manual, the V-shaped headlights which blend with the current Citroen grille and there’s some new twists like the V-shaped laser fibre optic 3D rear lights.

But perhaps the biggest surprise are the rear doors – they are rear-hinged ‘autoclave’ doors which open and rise to the top of the roof at a 90-degree angle.

The Citroen CXperience can run as a pure electric vehicle for up to 60kms thanks to its 80kW electric motor which is supplemented by a 150kW petrol engine.

An eight-speed automatic transmission sits transversely between the petrol engine and the electric motor with the battery pack placed under the cabin and driving the rear wheels.
