Mercedes-Benz’s updated pair of CLA models has arrived in Australia, with both the four-door coupe and Shooting Brake wagon bringing new equipment and come cosmetic changes for 2016.
The entry-level CLA 200 models now come with fixed LED headlamps and a diamond radiator grille as standard, along with ambient lighting, a DAB+ digital radio, Dynamic Select driving modes and the ‘Keyless-Go’ comfort pack as standard.
For the 200 Shooting Brake, an Easy Pack tailgate is also standard, while power for both 200 models comes from a 1.4 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 115kW and 250Nm.
Stepping up to the diesel-powered CLA 220 d brings a boost in power over the outgoing CLA 200 d models, now 130kW and 350 - up a substantial 30kW and 50Nm respectively.
Benz says the new power figures do not come at the expense of economy, with the official figure or 4.2 l/100km for the CLA 220 d coupe.
First of the all-wheel-drive CLA models is the CLA 250 Sport 4MATIC, with power provided by a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 160kW and 350Nm.
Features for the 250 include AMG’s ride control sports suspension, a panoramic glass sunroof, leather sports seats which are both electronically controlled and heated along with 18-inch alloy wheels - also from AMG.
Topping the range is the 280kW/475Nm Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC, which boasts a 0-100km/h time of 4.2 seconds for the coupe and 4.3 seconds for the Shooting Brake.
Features include a host of AMG goodies, such as the Driver’s Pack, 19-inch alloy wheels, a performance exhaust and braking pack, sports seats and a Harmon Kardon surround sound system. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.4 l/100km.
Safety equipment in various models includes nine airbags, lane-keep assist, attention assist, parking pilot and an active bonnet. All CLA models for Australia are matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
“Since their respective launches, the CLA Coupe and CLA Shooting Brake have helped to redefine public perception of our brand, and proven highly successful additions to the Mercedes-Benz line up” Mercedes-Benz Cars Australia/Pacific CEO, Horst von Sanden, said.
“The new models further enhance the extremely progressive and unmistakable design, while providing even greater value and technology for our customers.”
