The comprehensively updated 2017 Holden Colorado range goes on sale in Australia, engineered for improved refinement and driveability without diminishing ruggedness.
International development of the Colorado truck (Holden is phasing out the term "ute" for all but its Commodore-based load carrier) was carried out in Brazil and Thailand, but with significant input from Holden’s Australian engineers.
Under the skin, the Colorado keeps the same 2.8 litre four-cylinder Duramax turbo diesel engine, with outputs held at the same 147kW and 440Nm for manual models and 500Nm for automatics.
The engine has been updated to achieve Euro 5 emissions compliance, and has also had the balance shafts relocated and additional sound deadening applied to the engine and timing cover to reduce noise.
Automatic variants gain a new Centrifugal Pendulum Absorber torque converter to further quell driveline vibrations, while the automatic transmission itself has been recalibrated to improve driveability and efficiency.
The manual Colorado now features a shorter final-drive ratio, again with the aim of improving drivability.
On the inside the 2017 Colorado now comes standard with either a 7.0-inch, or 8.0-inch MyLink touchscreen (depending on model grade) all units feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, with 8.0-inch versions also providing standard satellite navigation and DAB+ digital radio.
A newly designed dashboard improves interior quality, with new finishes, stitched detailing, a revised instrument cluster, and new climate controls for high-line variants.
New fabric trims with contrasting details give a more car-like look and feel to lower-spec models, with standard leather on Z71 (optional on LTZ) including heated front seats.
New and more stringent quality controls at GM’s Rayong production facility in Thailand ensure better fit and finish of internal and exterior components, as well as more stringent paint and trim controls.
Holden has also bolstered the Colorado range with its "largest ever" genuine accessory collection including bull- and nudge-bars, rear sports bars, rear step bumper, side steps, LED lighting options, wheel arch flares, snorkel, and wheel and tyre upgrades - all covered by Holden’s warranty.
All Colorado pick-up models feature a standard rear view camera and rear park sensors, with the option to upgrade cab-chassis models with the same equipment where applicable.
Seven airbags (including driver’s knee) electronic stability control, hill descent control, and trailer sway control are also standard, with dual cab models featuring two ISOFIX child restraints.
High-line LTZ and Z71 models also come with forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and tyre pressure monitoring.
