American reports suggest that Ford, after successfully challenging Tesla in court over the Model E nomenclature, will use that badge on its upcoming range of electric vehicles.

That range will include a compact SUV but speaking at a function in Silicon Valley, California a few days ago, Ford CEO Mark Fields reiterated the Ford electric range will have a variety of body styles and will tackle a number of market segments.

And word on the street is Ford is looking to follow Hyundai’s Ioniq which is sold as a hybrid, plg-in hybrid or fully electric vehicle.

In all some 13 new Ford models will launch over the next five years with either full or partial electric propulsion.

The first Ford Model E - a family sedan - is slated for launch in 2019 and offer a range between battery re-charges of 320kms.
