Mitsubishi has whipped the covers off yet another concept - this time a small seven-seat people mover styled more like an SUV.
Called the XM, the new concept previews what a new small MPV-crossover for the ASEAN region might look like - Mitsubishi has just such a model in mind to go into production in Indonesia next year.
Mitsubishi’s ‘Dynamic Shield’ corporate face takes pride of place up front and runs into slimline LED headlights. Chunky fog-lights set into the angular front bumper complete the rugged look.
Along the body sides, the XM features squared-off front and rear quarter panels, with plastic cladding framing the wheel arches and side-sills.
Although just the front of the XM has so far been revealed, the concept hints at a panoramic windscreen (that appears to flow into the roof) and a ‘floating’ roof, possible thanks to a glazed D-pillar insert.
There’s no word on powertrains yet, although given Mitsubishi’s recent push to electrification, the concept will likely feature an electric or plug-in hybrid system that may also find its way into production, at least with some in the range.
As for Australia, the XM, (which is smaller than Mitsubishi’s last local people mover, the Grandis) is unlikely to be offered locally, with Mitsubishi instead concentrating on its current SUV range.
