Hyundai has simplified its Veloster coupe range, moving from the previous four-variant lineup, to just two models: the naturally aspirated Veloster and turbocharged Veloster SR.

The adjustment sees a small specification shuffle, and the deletion of the more highly specified Veloster + and Veloster SR+, however both cars retain their respective mechanical packages.

The naturally aspirated Veloster gains the most equipment (compared to the previous entry-level Veloster) with new standard features including an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, leather trim, proximity key with push-button start, climate control, power folding and heated mirrors, and a panoramic sunroof.

The Veloster also changes to black headlining, and gains a boot floor cargo net, passenger seatback map pocket, and Supervision instrument cluster with dot matrix display.

The turbocharged Veloster SR adds climate control, power folding and heated mirrors and a panoramic sunroof.

Both variants now feature a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system incorporating Apple CarPlay, as well as voice activation via Siri Eyes Free and Google Now.

Some of the items that have gone missing on all variants include a CD player, premium audio, and steering wheel phone controls. The Deletion of the SR+ also wipes out heated and cooled front seats.

“We have concentrated on the features our customers have told us they like the most.” Hyundai’s director of marketing, Oliver Mann, said.

“Keeping popular, high-value items such as the panoramic sunroof and leather-appointed upholstery has led to a sharper overall package for both Veloster models,”

“Veloster is more than just a brilliant, unique, and surprisingly practical design – it is without doubt the best-value, best-equipped car in its class, now more than ever.”

Under the bonnet the Veloster continues with a 1.6 litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 103kW and 167Nm with a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The Veloster SR retails a turbocharged 1.6 litre engine with outputs of 150kW and 265Nm, paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch automatic.
