In a landmark move for Renault Australia, the 2016 Renault Koleos is set to make its global debut on the Australian market ahead of all others.

In the lead up to the offical launch, set to take place later this month, Renault has released the price and details of its new family SUV.

“We are the first market to sell the all-new Koleos and performed local pre-series testing,” revealed Renault Australia boss Justin Hocevar.

“Coupled with the vehicle’s outstanding specification levels and value for money, this demonstrates not only how important Koleos is for Australia but also Renault’s commitment to this market and our region.”

First-up you’ll notice the tough new exterior - definitely more muscle than the previous generation and, according to Renault, carrying some styling cues from its Talisman sedan.

Inside is more space and customizable lighting plus Renault’s new R-Link2 infotainment system, featuring an 8.7-inch tablet-like screen for the range-topping variant or a 7.0-inch touchscreen for the rest.

Renault Koleos continues with the elevated front seats which have proven to be popular with owners of the previous generation and is claimed to deliver class-leading interior space, including rear seat knee room of 298mm.

While the Xtronic continuously variable transmission has been re-engineered for smoother operation, there are no other changes to the driveline - Renault Koleos available in either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive variants and all employ Renault’s 126kW/226Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

For the all-new model range, Renault Australia has brought the Koleos in-line with global nomenclatures. Entry grade is now called ‘Life’, the mid-spec is called ‘Zen’ and the range-topper adopts ‘Intens’

The Life brings some good specifications to the table including automatic dual-zone climate-control air-conditioning, automatic headlights and wipers, front and rear fog-lights (fronts with cornering function), LED tail-lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear-view camera and rear parking sensors.

Zen brings peace and tranquility (no, just joking!), but it does add the option of all-wheel-drive plus 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats (fronts heated and electronic adjustment for the driver), keyless entry and rear privacy glass. On the options list are an electronic panoramic roof and a safety pack (Advanced Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning, Forward Collision Warning).

Range-topping Intens is 4x4 only and goes further getting the panoramic roof and the safety pack features as standard plus Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning as well as Easy Park Assist, 12-speaker Bose audio, power tailgate operation, the 8.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, plus heated and ventilated front seats.

Koleos is one of the best-selling models in the Renault Australia range with 890 units sold in 2015 and already this year (as at the end of June), some 528 Renault Koleos vehicles had found homes Downunder’
