Renault’s Megane range is now officially a triple-treat for buyers, with the addition of a new sedan variant.

As revealed in leaked owner’s manual images last month, the Megane sedan complements the existing hatch and wagon variants in the Megane range and Renault says it’s “equipped with features from the segment above”.

One of those features include a panoramic glass roof, which Renault says is unique to the small sedan segment.

Other features include a seven-inch colour TFT digital display along with 8.7-inch ‘multimedia tablet’ and a colour head-up display. Renault’s R-Link and Multi-Sense systems are also included.

The Megane sedan is built on the CMF C/D platform for family cars. Safety features include park assist, autonomous emergency braking and lane-departure warning.

Renault says space in the rear seat and in the boot will be a highlight for the Megane sedan, and hands-free boot operation is available.

Five engines will be available, depending on the market.

Petrol-powered options include the SCe 115 engine matched with either a five-speed manual or CVT auto and the 97kW/205Nm TCe 130 which will likely be available in Australia. The latter is matched with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch auto.

Diesel options include the dCi 90, dCi 110 and dCi 130 units. All are available with a six-speed manual, while the 110 also offers a six-speed dual-clutch auto.

Production will take place in Turkey, and the 2017 Renault Megane sedan is expected to arrive in Australia during the first half of next year. Pricing and specifications, including engines, are yet to be determined - stay tuned to TMR for more.
