The 2017 Renault Megane Estate has entered production, launching in European showrooms from September following its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

The wagon version of the new Megane follows closely in the footsteps of the five-door hatch, offering the same range of engines, and same front-end styling.

From the B-pillar back though, the Megane Estate adds a larger cargo area and blacked-out D-pillar for a unique look, and an added dose of practicality.

Boot space in the rear of the Megane Estate grows to 580 litres behind the rear seats, a handy boost over the 384 litre capacity of the hatch. Folding rear, and front passenger seats also open up a load space stretching 2.7 metres in length.

As with the five-door range, the Estate will arrive in Europe with a choice of Megane, Megane GT-Line and Megane GT trims, the latter of which features a 151kW turbocharged 1.6 litre engine.

European customers will be able to select from a range of three diesel engines, including one with hybrid assist technology, as well as three petrol engine choices, paired with either a six-speed manual, six-speed dual-clutch automatic, or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic depending on the engine.

The Megane GT Estate also features Renault’s 4Control four-wheel steering system, while the 8.7-inch R-Link 2 touchscreen infotainment system will also feature on some models.

Safety systems include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, distance warning, and hands-free parking.

As for Australia, we can expect to see the Megane hatch before the end of 2016 (check out our preview drive here), Renault Australia informs us that the wagon will arrive slightly later, going on sale in the first half of 2017.
