Volkswagen has recalled a trio of models from its 2016 line-up in Australia this week, due to a potential problem with the rear-door child locks.

The lock may have been damaged during manufacturing, and the carmaker says the mechanism could be switched to ‘off’ without the user knowing.

Should this occur, the rear doors could be opened from the inside by children, which could create a hazard to the vehicle occupants or other road users.

Affected models include the 2016 Golf small car, Polo light car and the Tiguan SUV, with 2325 vehicles targeted in the recall in Australia.

Earlier this month, Volkswagen also recalled its Transporter, Caravelle and Multivan models, due to a potential issues with the airbags.

Volkswagen will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or call Volkswagen on 1800 607 822.
