Images of what appears to be a Renault Megane sedan or similar have appeared in the European press, leaked via the specifications page of an owner’s manual.
The outline clearly shows a sedan body-style from the side profile with measurements to match, and the front profile shows a silhouette of the current Megane wearing Renault badge.
The ‘RNews’ site from the Czech Republic has published the images, declaring that a Megane sedan is the most likely owner of the outline and specs.
Renault shareholders were told at the annual meeting last month that a Megane sedan is on the way for 2017, along with the Renault Alaskan pickup (due to be unveiled in the next 24 hours) and a sub-light SUV to sit below the compact Captur model.
The ‘Megane sedan’ name is yet to be confirmed, but the new model will replace the Fluence as Renault’s ‘midsized’ sedan (‘small’ sedan in Australia).
If the leaked images are to be believed, Renault is taking the ‘midsized’ portion of the Megane sedan recipe seriously, with the new model to feature a longer wheelbase than both the Megane hatch and wagon (below).
The wheelbase is 2711mm, while overall length is 4630mm and width measures 2058mm. That means the wheelbase trumps the wagon by 40mm, but the overall length is just 3mm longer.
Should the Megane sedan by on the way this year, a Paris Motors Show debut is not out of the question. Whether a Megane sedan would make it to Australian showrooms or not remains to be seen.
