First announced back in March, McLaren’s track-oriented 570S Sprint has made its first public outing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, performing multiple full-power runs up the event’s legendary 1.85km hillclimb.

Designed purely for track day use, the 570S Sprint differs slightly from the motorsport-grade 570S GT4 that was also announced earlier this year.

While the 570S GT4 is equipped to comply with FIA GT4 category rules as a full-fledged racecar, the 570S Sprint is slightly less serious. Nevertheless, it’s only a single option package away from being made GT4-compliant.

Powered by the same 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V8 as the 570S GT4, McLaren claims power and torque outputs “have been optimised to ensure the ultimate levels of driver engagement and the best levels of noise”.

Precise engine stats have yet to be announced, though expect a modest increase over the 570S road car’s 420kW and 600Nm.

Like the McLaren 570S road car, power goes to the rear wheels via a paddle-shifted six-speed twin clutch automatic.

Unlike the road car, the 570S Sprint has an enhanced high-temp radiator, an improved aero package that includes a front splitter, underfloor panels and fixed carbon-fibre rear wing, and centrelock magnesium racing wheels.

Pirelli racing slicks are standard and a full rollcage and fixed-back racing seats with six-spoint harenesses protect occupants. The interior has also been stripped out to save weight - cupholders have no place on a racetrack

The suspension geometry is shared with the 570S road car, though spring and damper settings are unique. An integrated air jack system is optional, while a fire extinguisher system is standard. McLaren might claim the Sprint is pitched at weekend warriors, but the spec sheet reveals a far more serious car than what the average track day enthusiast might roll up in.

Price? McLaren will sell you one for £148,000 (or AUD$263,842) if you're planning on visiting the UK. Don't expect to land one here for anything like that price. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2017.
