With the last remaining stocks of the outgoing Tiguan entering runout phase, the engine and specification line-up of the new 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan have now been confirmed.

Preparing to launch in September, the new Tiguan is expected to deliver a significant boost in the strong-selling medium SUV class in Australia, taking the place of the first Tiguan which went on sale here over eight years ago.

Three trim levels have been confirmed, available with a spread of five different engines; three petrol and two diesel - all four-cylinder turbos.

Petrol options include the 110kW/250Nm 110TSI, 132kW/320Nm 132TSI and 162kW/350Nm 162TSI, while diesel buyers can select from a 110kW/340Nm 110TDI BlueMotion or 140kW/400Nm 140TDI BlueMotion, depending on specification.

The 110TSI variants feature front-wheel-drive, while all other engines are coupled to 4Motion all-wheel-drive.

The range starts with the Trendline, available with with the 110TSI engine in manual or DSG automatic.

Cruise control, auto lights and wipers, park assist, rear view camera, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are just some of the Trendline’s spec highlights.

Moving up to the mid-range Comfortline brings a choice of 110TSI, 110TDI or 132TSI engines, all with Volkswagen’s twin-clutch DSG automatic transmission.

Comfortline models also include three-zone climate control, rear seat tray tables, front seat storage drawers, driving profile selection, front fog lights, carpet floor mats, satellite navigation, and chrome roof rails and window surrounds

The top spec Tiguan Highline comes with either the 140TDI or 162TSI engines, and is again exclusively automatic-only.

Highline highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, powered tailgate, LED headlights, Vienna leather upholstery, heated front seats with electric adjustment of the driver’s seat, privacy glass and “premium” LED tail lights.

Buyers can also upgrade to the Luxury package for Comfortline models, with leather trim, heated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, keyless access, a powered tailgate, and electric panoramic roof.

Driver Assistance package on Comfortline and Highline adds adaptive cruise control, side assist with rear traffic alert, power folding mirrors and area view to the already standard rear view camera, tyre pressure monitoring, city emergency brake, lane assist, active bonnet, and fatigue detection that comes standard across the range.

The R-Line package available on Tiguan Highline brings an exclusive R-Line body kit, 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive chassis control, progressive steering and R-Line interior highlights.

Volkswagen is staying quiet on pricing, but will unveil prices across the range, and the option packages, closer to the new Tiguan’s September launch.
