McLaren’s tuning division, McLaren Special Operations, has created a limited edition version of the 675LT Spider called the Carbon Series LT (‘Longtail’), but all examples are already spoken for.

Just 25 will be built to serve all of McLaren’s markets around the world, and each was sold long before the gears begin to turn on the production line.

The build program was prompted by customer demand for the model, following the display of a carbon-fibre bodied McLaren P1 at the Geneva Motor Show.

As the name suggests, the Carbon Series steps-up McLaren’s weight-saving strategies along with aerodynamic efficiency.
A further 40 percent of the car’s body panels are now carbon-fibre, wearing a gloss paint finish.

The front bumper features a larger splitter and end plates, with those components along with the “front underbody, side-skirts, side intakes, lower side intakes, rear body-side lower, rear fenders, rear deck, rear bumper, diffuser and ‘Longtail’ Airbrake” all receiving the gloss carbon-fibre treatment.

More carbon features in the electronically-retractable roof, bonnet and wings, and even the fuel filler flap has been on the carbon diet.

Buyers can opt for McLaren’s Track Telemetry Pack to further enhance their purchase, featuring three track cameras.

Power comes from a 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine producing 497kW and 700Nm - enabling the Carbon Series LT to hit 100km/h from rest in 2.9 seconds, passing 200km/h after 8.1 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 326km/h.

For optimum launching and minimal wheel-spin, the electronics limit the engine’s torque whilst in first gear to 600Nm.

Production for the 2016 McLaren Special Operations Carbon Series LT begins in the Australian spring, with first deliveries expected before the end of the year.
