Production of the new 2008 Mazda 2 has been kicked-off at Mazda’s Ujina Plant No. 1 in Hiroshima amongst much swilling of Sake and Karaoke singing. You're right, I made that last bit up. They were actually wearing white lab-coats and standing in neat lines but we are sure the atmosphere was electric.

The new Mazda 2 promises to be a big hit in Australia. One look at the ultra cool and snazzy styling tells us that even in green this is one car that will prove to be very popular.

The Feng Shui at Mazda corporate headquarters is obviously spot on. Subaru need to buy more ceramic tigers or install another water feature if they are ever going to compete with the good lookers that Mazda are producing. Check out the new 2008 Subaru Impreza by clicking on the link and you will see what we mean.

The new Mazda 2 will be sold in Japan, Europe, China and Australia with the US having to wait for Ford’s Fiesta which will be a badge-engineered Mazda 2. The Chinese market Mazda 2 will be built in China while Mazda has plans to fire up their Ujina No. 2 plant in June to further increase Mazda 2 production.

We have previously written about the possible production of the Mazda 2 in China and at this stage there is no word on where the Australian delivered cars will be manufactured.

The first cars are expected in Japanese showrooms in the third quarter of this year which means we should see the new Mazda 2 in Australia before the end of this year. There is no official word on Australian pricing or availability at this stage.
